Who is letting this go on? "Danton's Corner"? Are you kidding me? Two of the biggest criminals in NHL history are now working together on a blog that I cannot help but read. What's next, a book? Actually, yes, they are both working on their seperate books...is anyone else excited to read about the "real" story of David Frost and the way he took advantage of young hockey players? Does Frost not remember that Danton is in jail because he hired someone to kill Frost?
I want to hear your thoughts on this blog, so please reply to this in the forums and let me know. Make sure you read Frost's attack on Toronto reporters, and how obnoxious this guy really is. Honestly, the fact that this blog is being read and is getting press is just wrong. The guy was wrongly aquitted, and now a week later he's milking it. Cap Crunchers
Rumours are hitting me this morning that a few of the NHLs top teams are looking to make trades, despite their success.
Montreal and Detroit are both in the top half of their respective conferences, but both are also looking ahead to next season. Both Montreal and Detroit are up against the cap, with key UFAs this summer. Both teams understand that they will not be able to keep all their current players beyond next season, and would like to fix this problem before it becomes a real problem.
In Detroit, they are currently as close to the cap as you can possibly be. This summer, Zetterberg, Hossa, Samuellson, Franzen and Conklin all become free agents.
Jimmy Howard will likely take over for Conklin at the same salary, so that will even out. Zetterberg will likely get a similar contract to Hossa's, so that evens out. However, Samuellson will be looking for a raise, as he only makes 1.2 million a season, as will franzen, who will expect a large raise above his current 1.15 million dollars.
Rumours this afternoon suggest the Wings may be shopping Cleary, Draper and Holmstrom. Cleary is struggling, only registering 7 points with a -2 in 15 games with the Wings this year. Holmstrom could also be doing better, with 13 points in 17games, though his plus 8 and his presence in front of the net would be something a lot of teams would be interested in. As for Kris Draper, he is having the worst season of his career, with just 2 points in 23 games, while posting a horrible -8.
The Wings would love to get Ville Leino into the lineup, and this seems to be the path to do it. They feel Leino would be more productivce than any of the three players I mentioned, which is why they can afford to take back stricky picks and prospects for the above players. Darren Helm has been back and forth between Grand Rapids and Detroit as well, and they'd like to have room to keep him up for good.

With just two million to spare right now, and apparent interest in Mats Sundin (which will be addressed in the next paragraph), the Habs are heading into Cap Hell for next season. Tanguay, Koivu, Kovalev, Lang, Begin, Kostopolous, Bouillion, Komisarek, Brisebois and Dandenault are all unrestricted free agents come July 1st.
Forget Brisebois, Begin, Kostopolous and Dandenault because they can either be re-signed or replaced for the same amount they are costing the Habs now.
Alex Tanguay has been explosive for the Habs this year, big credit to him for their success this season. He currently makes 5.35 million, he's worth more. Look for him to get at least $7 million somewhere.
Saku Koivu is someone I'm not 100% concerned with. He's their captain, he loves Montreal, and he's currently making just under $5 million. I don't see him demanding much of a raise, and I don't see him in a rush to leave. With that said, some are saying he is interested in playing with his brother, who will be looking for a new teammate with the expected departure of Gaborik. Koivu is having a breakout offensive year with the club, leading all Habs with 19 points.
Robert Lang, who many expected to not do a thing for the Habs, quietly has been a great player for them. With that said, he's still not worth four million dollars, and will likely be replaced.
Alex Kovalev has 16 points in 23 games, and has been a key component to the Habs success over the last 3 seasons. At 4.5 million, I think Kovalev will be looking for somewhere around 6 million. While it's only 1.5 million, it's also that same amount that the Habs don't have to spend.
Then there is Mike Komisarek. They've lost a big defenseman every July for the past two years, and they don't want to make this a three-peat. Komisarek has a cap hit of 1.7 this season, and will be offered more than 4 million by rival teams. This kid is one of the top defensive defensemen in the game, and easily Montreal's #2 defenseman.
To make matters worse, Montreal has two of their best young players as RFAs. Plekanek and Higgins, their 6th and 7th top scorers, are both in for big raises. At just under two million dollars per year each, both can expect to be making at least double that when the 09-10 season opens.
So what does Montreal do? Whispers have them shopping Lang, Kovalev, and Higgins. Lang is unlikely going anywhere, as his four million is too much for rival clubs to pick up. Kovalev has been such a key for Montreal, but with Tanguay and Koivu's amazing play, Kovalev is suddenly available. Look for a Minnesota or a Vancouver to make a play for him between now and the deadline. Finally, Higgins has been shopped by Montreal for a year now. He was offered in a package to Atlanta for Hossa, he was offered in a package to Toronto for Sundin, he was offered in a package recently to Minnesota for Gaborik (before he got hurt). For whatever reason, Montreal has fallen out of love with Higgins, and I've been told that Higgins will be gone from Montreal 100% by the trade deadline.
Detroit and Montreal, two teams that would love to have Mats Sundin, are not alone. Chicago GM Dale Tallonmet with Sundin a few days ago, and are considered serious players in this game. The Calgary Flames, for reasons I will discuss in a second, are also serious players in this Sundin game. Vancouver is back in it, while do not count out Ottawa, who need Sundin more than anyone else.
As for Calgary, they are shopping one of my favourite players, Mike Cammalleri. He'll be a UFA at the end of the season. Calgary was hoping Cammy would play a stronger physical game, but he hasn't and they've had enough of him. Ottawa is big on this guy, as is Washington.
Nylander to Chicago is not dead, but Chicago really needs to find a taker for Khabibulin before this goes anywhere. Nylander is really unhappy in Washington and would gladly waive his NTC.
Finally, with the LA Kings very close to a playoff spot, management is starting to believe that this is the time to make a move. The team is full of young talent, and should only get better from here. I am hearing they have interest in Toronto's Kaberle, Kubina, and Toskala. Burke is on the fence about Toskala, unsure if he's the guy to build his team around. He would also love to move one of his two extremely valuable defenseman. With that said, talks are not ongoing, and are not expected to get aggresive until the new year.
In afternoon action, the Panthers blanked the Rangers (who are falling quite fast...) 4-0. Atlanta currently leads St. Louis 2-1 in the second period. Game of the night tonight? Edmonton and Dallas...why you ask? Nobody in my opinion had a better playoff rivalry in the late 90s than these two teams. Let's see if an old rivalry can spark some good hockey from to struggling teams.

Burke Deal Done, Belak Dealt To Preds
Brian Burke has officially signed a contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs. Six year deal, around $3 million per season. Burke will be in Toronto on Saturday to

Wacky Wednesday
The Brian Burke saga is almost over. Talking to sources yesterday, the Burke deal will be announced on Saturday. Six years, including the balance of this one, and Burke will make about $3 million a season. The deal will be announced in Toronto Saturday afternoon, and will be featured for primetime on Hockey Night in Canada. Many speculated that Burke's first move would be waiving Jason Blake, but a concussion on Blake's end may delay that process.
The Panthers are amping up trade efforts on the Bouwmeister front. Toronto, Ottawa, Chicago, Vancouver and Washington are all teams I've heard that have interest. He will be dealt by the deadline, that is for sure.
As for Kovalchuk, would a Gaborik for Kovalchuk trade really be so wacky? yes, it would, ignore those rumours.
What about Claude Lemieux! I hope he makes it back into the NHL, what a story that would be.

Grey Cup?
Today, the Grey Cup will be played in Canada? Does anyone watch the CFL anymore? Sadly, i'm more interested in the Titans-Jets game today, where my beloved, unbeaten Titans are currently down 10-3 to Brett Favres Jets....
In the hockey world, there is INCREASED speculation that Burke, Nonis and Sundin could all be Leafs this week. I have been told that Nonis comes with Burke right away, no matter where he goes. While originally I was told Burke would be a Leaf by tomorrow, it may be delayed till later in the week. Either way, this will get done.
As for Sundin, he has spent much of the last week talking to other teams. He met with Gainey first, Melnyk next. I am told he has also had several phone conversations with Gillis as well. It looks as though Sundin will play for a Canadien team, but which one? I believe it will be Toronto, but only time will tell. If Burke becomes the GM of the Leafs, I just don't see Sundin going anywhere else. Burke will want to win now, and Sundin is the best player available.
What about Shanahan? The Devils and Flyers are the two teams to watch, however, I've been told a third team has entered the mix. That team you ask? Carolina.
The Bruins now sit a-top the Eastern Conference. How long can they keep this up?
Vancouver could be in a world of trouble if Luongo is out for any length of time. First Brodeur, now Luongo. Nabokov, who is the third best goalie in the NHL, appears to be next.
Khabibulin is doing anything but hurt his value. It's only a matter of time before someone wakes up and realises this guy could be their missing piece. My vote goes to Ottawa, but I'm hearing Khabibulin won't be moved until Sundin signs somewhere. Three teams interested in Sundin, like Khabibulin: Ottawa, Tampa Bay, and Philly.
What's up with Gaborik? He may be one of the best wingers in the game, yet we're not hearing anything on his injury status...He's killing me in my hockey pool.

Burke Watch
While the original thought was that Burke would take his time signing with Toronto, I am hearing more and more that he will be the Leafs GM by the end of next week.
Already there are a ton of rumours about what Burke would do, and according to sources, he'd do plenty. Bringing in an enforecer, getting rid of a couple of smaller-sized players like Steen, Blake and Tlusty, and securing a few more draft picks are apparently things Burke has his eye on in Toronto. Is there a chance Burke won't end up in Toronto? Yes, but at this point it's small.
The Blackhawks and Caps are talking about a deal that would send Barker to the Caps in exchange for Nylander. There is more than those two players involved. Nylander is apparently not pleased with his current role on the Caps. On a related note, is there a better player in the league right now than Semin?
Ottawa is looking for some blueline help, and they are really trying to pry Ohlund out of Vancouver. The Canucks are still hopeful they can get him resigned, but if they finally give up, the Sens will be first in line. The Canucks and Sens have been trying to make a deal with each other since last deadline.
On the Sundin watch, I've been told Toronto and Vancouver are the two teams to watch. Sundin has been surprised by both teams play thus far, and feels he could help both teams easily make the playoffs.
The first team to trade for a goalie may be Dallas. They'd really like someone to put the pressure on Turco, who has been awful thus far.
A coaching change isn't all the change that will happen in Tampa. I've been told to watch for another big hammer to drop if things don't improve in a hurry. That hammer could be St. Louis.
Tonight is a great night for sports, I suggest sitting in front of a tv all night! I myself am off to Boston Pizza to catch the leafs game, followed by a great UFC card.

Sick Of Sundin
Before I go on, I want you to know that Sundin likely will sign with one of the teams I am about to mention. How, or why, I don't know, but there is a lot of sillyness going on when it comes to Sundin right now.
First, lets get things straight. He's going to sign for at least $7 million within the next month.
The Ducks are at the cap, so how are they expected to add seven million dollars? Several reporters will tell you they will make a trade to pave the way for Sundin, but who?
Niedermayer and Pronger are making just under seven million, but I don't expect either to be dealt. Todd Marchant is a likely trade piece, but his 2.5 million salary wont even get half the job done. Sure, you could add Getzlaf, Perry or Kunitz to the deal to clear the seven million, but why would you trade a player that will be good on your team for five more seasons to add a guy who will play half of this season, and maybe next...it won't happen, the Ducks are not getting Sundin.
The Rangers are another team who apparently will make room for Sundin should he want to come. The Rangers have just under 2 million in cap space, so their challenge is a little easier. They are not trading Gomez or Drury, so scratch that idea. Naslund, Redden and Rozsival are also not being dealt, so there goes that as well. After them, nobody is making over 2.1 million, meaning Sundin to Broadway just isnt possible.
Then there are the Sens. First, Sundin would never play for the Leafs arch rival, it just wouldn't be right. The sens have four million in cap space, so they could clear an extra three if they had to. Chris Neil and Vermette would have to go, but they could go anyways and the team wouldnt really miss them. Statistically Sundin could go to Ottawa, but I'd bet against it.

Shakeups Coming
As we hit the 1/8th point of the season, there are a handfull of teams already looking to shake things up.
One is Columbus, who had huge expectations coming off of a busy offseason. This team is in their eigth season, with no playoff berths to show for it. Some are wondering how long this franchise can continue to operate without the success that is necessary.
From what I am hearing, the Blue Jackets would love to add a #1 centre, and some goaltending insurance. Mike Comrie is a player the Jackets do have interest in, while Peter Prucha's name has come up a lot. While niether of these players are #1's, they are a start. One is Columbus, who had huge expectations coming off of a busy offseason. This team is in their eigth season, with no playoff berths to show for it. Some are wondering how long this franchise can continue to operate without the success that is necessary.
From what I am hearing, the Blue Jackets would love to add a #1 centre, and some goaltending insurance. The Latest From Around The NHL
First of all, sorry for the lack of updates over the last 5 days. I had some serious laptop problems, and thus didnt have the proper files to update the site. Everything is back to normal now, so expect daily updates as usual.
Luke Schenn will stay with the Leafs past this week the team announced today. This will burn a year off of his contract, but will not burn a year of UFA status until he has played over 40 games.
For those of you who have Ovechkin playing this week in your pool, you may want to bench him. AO has gone home to be with his ailing grandfather and will not play tomorrow night. Hockeyleaks.com wishes AO and his family the very best.

Slow Starts
Pre-season predictions are always risky. No matter what a team looks like on paper, you can never know how those players will gel. For some teams, they adapt over time and right the ship, while others never find their way and have a season they would like to forget.
Three of the best teams in last years Western Conference find themselves as the worst three teams in the West. Dallas, Calgary and Anaheim all are off to terrible starts. Calgary's goaltending has been their weakest point, as well as Iginla's slow start. For the other two teams, there have been very few bright spots.
On the top half, Vancouver is slowing down after a hot start. St. Louis, a team many had as the worst team in the league before the season began, currently sits atop their division with a 4-1 record. I expect them to fall back to earth.
The team to watch in the West is the Oilers. Some, like Hockeyleaks, had them as a playoff team, while others had them on the outside looking in. After a 4-0 start, this team has looked good. It will be interesting to see where they sit at the 20 game mark, when you have a good representation of where a team will finish.
As far as the Eastern conference goes, it's pretty much like a lot of us predictied. The Leafs, Islanders, Panthers and Thrashers are all near the bottom, while the Habs, Rangers and Capitals are tearing it up. The Flyers are the biggest
surprise, as they are the only winless team in the NHL.
So as teams continue to struggle, it will be interesting to see what types of moves are made. If the Flyers can't right the ship, Holmgren will be the first to make a move. Look for a player like Lupul to be dealt soon.
In Anaheim, the team is right up against the cap. They have great defensive depth they could move for some help up front, while I'm hearing a player like Kunitz could also be traded if things do not improve.
In Calgary, they need a centre. Langkow is not the answer, while Keenan has yet to give Cammy a chance to prove he can play up the middle. The Flames will move a defensman for some offensive help, and I'm hearing the Flames may add another goalie to put the pressure on Kipper should he continue to struggle.

The Penguins like their team, but would also love to add a defenseman, or maybe even two. They are not looking for a top 2 defenseman, more of a 3-4.

- both teams are off to a great start, look for another big night by Marc Savard, though I think Crosby is in for a repeat of his great game against Toronto on Saturday

- Sean Avery returns back to NYR, cannot wait to see the reaction of the Ranger faithfull. Can Brunnstrom keep it going, and can Dallas snap out of their funk? This one is going to be great to watch.

Cherepanov Dies During Game
According to TSN.ca, Rangers prospect Alexei Cherepanov has passed away after his heart stopped beating during a game today. Our deepest sympathies go to his family, Omsk, and the New York Rangers

If you have Ryan Hollweg or Jack Johnson in your yahoo pool, you may want to make some changes.
Jack Johnson will miss 10-12 weeks with an arm injury suffered last night against San Jose.
Ryan Hollweg took a boarding penalty in today's game against the Blues, and will be suspended for the Leaf's next three games. I can't see Toronto putting up with his antics too much longer.
If you have Tkachuk available in your pool, like his is in one of mine, you may want to pick him up. Four goals already for the veteran who many considered washed up. Andy Mcdonald is looking like a key pickup as well.
Keep an eye on Marek Malik, rumours have him signing with the Lightning this week.
Leafs and Blues are tied 3-3 halfway through the second. Buffalo and NYI are scoreless 3 minutes into the game

How Things Change
Is anyone surprised to see Dany Heatley leading the goals? Roberto Luongo leading the league in shutouts? What about Henrik Lundqvist leading the league in wins? Surely you didn't see Sean Avery leading the league in penalty minutes.
Yes, the season is very young, but already familar faces are once again at the top of the charts. With that said, already a few surprises.
Let's start with Daniel Sedin, who currently leads the league with five points in just two games. The Canucks are off to a 2-0 start, which is good for a team everyone counted out before the puck dropped.
Atlanta, who many predicted to be the worst team in hockey, has three of a possible four points.
What about the rookie race. Stamkos isn't leading it, nor is anyone from Phoenix.
Stats mean nothing at this point, as we are just a handfull of games into the season, but it is interesting to see how things are already starting to unfold. Teams like St. Louis, Atlanta, Carolina and Minnesota are showing life, something many did not think they had. On the other side, teams like Calgary, Tampa, Philly and Chicago are showing they were not quite ready to start the season.
I love the NHL, and I love how every night there are exciting matchups tonight.
The Oilers kick their season off tonight against Colorado, which should be a great divisional matchup. With that said, the game of the night goes to Phoenix at Anaheim. Both these teams are going to be contenders this season, and it will be a great test for the young Coyotes.
The other game on the sched tonight is San Jose at LA, otherwise known as Rob Blake's return to LA. The Sharks look to go 3-0 on the season. San Jose beat LA 3-1 last night, with San Jose outshooting them 41-13.
Cheechoo is going to have a comeback year, you heard it here first.

Night Of Upsets + PPFL Information
What a night of hockey we had last night!
I knew the Sharks and Bruins would win, but how about those Leafs and Canucks!? Could they be the two sleeper teams to watch this year. Both team outworked teams that were more skilled then them. With that said, big tests await both teams this weekend.
The Leafs hold their home opener tomorrow night against Montreal (I will be in attendance!)
The Canucks go on the road to take on the Flames. I'm sure the Flames will be looking for revenege.
For those Habs fans, they open their season tonight against Buffalo. Hopefully the Sabres tire them out, and my Leafs can make it 2-0 tomorrow night! I love hockey.
Game of the night? Let's go with Chicago @ NYR. The Blackhawks have so much to prove, and I love this young team. The Rangers are already 2-0, and will look to make it 3-0 at their home opener! 7 PM game time.

Drop The Puck!
So I know the NHL season already started last weekend, but as far as I'm concerned, the NHL season starts tonight. The puck will finally drop in North America, and I can't say I've ever been this excited for a NHL season.
Never before have there been so many good teams. In the west, Detroit looks to defend, and are even better than last year. With that said, they are not the only team that is better.
San Jose is their biggest competition, bolstering their blueline with the additions of Boyle and Blake.
Calgary is better, with Cammy and Bertuzzi solid additions. Phaneuf seems to be getting better every season.
How about Dallas, who is tougher with Sean Avery, and the kids that impressed us so much last year are another year older.
Edmonton may be the most improved team in the league. Visnovsky and a full season of a healthy Souray will make this blueline dangerous. Up front, the addition of Eric Cole cannot be downplayed.
Chicago is another team that is sure to threaten. The additions of Campbell and Huet are huge for this club, while a full season out of Toews will be huge. The kids keep getting better, and that should translate into a playoff berth.
How about Anaheim? Full seasons from Niedermayer and Selanne cannot be overlooked, while guys like Perry, Kunitz and Getzlaf continue to mature over time. You just know Bobby Ryan is itching at his chance to prove himself.
Finally, I look to Phoenix. They have one of the most underrated goalies in the NHL, while the addition of Jokinen will turn out to be huge. The defense is questionable, but this team should still be very competitive.
How about the Eastern Conference. The Penguins were crowned champs of the East last year, but key losses on defense should bring them down a notch.
The 100th year of the Canadien is sure to be an interesting one, and adding Tanguay makes this a better team. Price is another year older, which means he should be better.
So what if the Rangers lost Jagr, they are still one of the best teams in the league. Lundqvist is a top five goalie, while the addition of Wade Redden should be key. Look for Gomez to have a huge year.
The Sens still believe they are the best team in the East, but they will have to prove that on the ice. They still have the best line in hockey, if some depth players can step up, and Gerber can be the goalie we all know he can be, the Sens could surprise.
How about those Flyers? Any team with Briere, Gagne, Carter, and Richards cannot be overlooked. This team will challenge for their division. I'm predicting a monster year from both Jeff Carter and Martin Biron.
Alexander Ovechkin continues to up his game, and there is no reason to doubt the Caps making the playoffs this year. Federov, Nylander, and Backstrom give the Caps a very deep centre position. And hey, lets not forget about Mike Green, this guy is going to open a lot of eyes this season.
The Bruins could be right there, with a healthy Bergeron ready to go. Marc Savard is one of the best play-makers in the game, while the pair of Tim Thomas and Manny Fernandez has the possibility to be great. Wideman and Chara give the Bruins a great start to a defense that needs some work.
Finally, how about the Tampa Bay Lightning. They have the talent up front, but goaltending and defense is still a question. I think they return to the playoffs this year, and once there, who knows what will happen.

Gonchar Out; Bolts Make Roster Moves
Gonchar will require shoulder surgery and will miss 4-6 months. With their top two defenseman out until 2009, I fully expect the Penguins to hit the market looking for a top-2 level defenseman. The Kaberle to Pittsburgh rumour should be starting any time now...
The Bolts have cleared some cap, leading to speculation that they have interest in Khabibulin. They have traded Nick Tarnesky to Nashville for a 5th or 6th round pick (conditional on how many GPs Tarnesky gets this season. The Bolts also have placed Michel Ouellet on waivers. If nobody claims him, it appears he will be sent to the minors. These moves will clear about 2 million off the Bolts' cap figure, leaving them at about 52-53 million. For those wonder, I do not believe the Bolts will bring Khabibulin back, I'm just telling you what others have been saying.

Khabibulin On Waivers
The Sens are very interested, as first reported by Hockeyleaks.com yesterday. Their was a deal in the works that would send both Khabibulin and Barker to Ottawa. Those talks broke off early this morning after Chicago asked for Brian Lee. While I believe those talks will resume, this will give the rest of the league 24 hours to gain interest.

Radulov Rumours
Two things are now for certain:
1) Radulov wants to return to the NHL
2) The Preds do not want him back
David Poille has been heavily shopping the young forward since last Thursday, and already there are several teams showing great interest.
The Flyers are the favourites at this point, I've been told. No word on the return, but the Preds are apparently trying to get either vanRiemsdyk or Giroux out of them.
The Penguins are another team very much in this. Jordan Staal is a name that will not go away in regards to Radulov.
Other teams who have moderate interest in Radulov include Ottawa (Vermette and picks has been thrown around), Vancouver and Carolina. This list will continue to grow as more information on Radulov returning to the NHL becomes available.

Tuesday Deadline...
Today could be a very important day in the world of the NHL. Mats Sundin apparently was given today as a deadline by the New York Rangers. I am also hearing that the NHLPA will confirm the CBA for 09/10 sometime this week. These two things together should mean that player movement should really amp up this week.
There are three major players to watch this week. One is Teemu Selanne, who we've been told will play this season. The Ducks need to a) move somebody or b) wait until the NHLPA approves the CBA for another season, and then move somebody between now and the start of the season. All signs point to Selanne being a Duck sometime this week.
Player #2 is Shanahan, who we are all being told will become a Ranger. If Mats joins the Rangers, this could change (the Devils still really like Shanahan). If Mats decides to join the Rangers, then Gomez is the odd man out. To me, why would they deal one of their top players who is signed long term, and replace him with a one-year guy who is 37 and may not play beyond this year. It makes no sense to me, and thus I do not believe it will happen. I will say this though, the prospects the Rangers could receive for Gomez would guarentee that they are a competitive team for hte next ten years. Vancouver would love a guy like Gomez, but then again, they'd love anyone who can put points on the board at this point.

Filatov Free To Play
Hockeyleaks.com has learned that Columbus prospect Nikita Filatov has been given full permission to play in North America this season. He will compete for a spot on the Blue Jackets in training camp. There was some fear that he was still under contract by the KHL, but this has been proven to not be the case.
The Minnesota Wild could be close to signing Martin Gelinas, he would be a cheaper and more experienced replacment for recently bought out Mark Parrish. Speaking of Parrish, I'm hearing he's down to Nashville, Vancouver and NYI.

Waiting On McCabe
Well McCabe was suppose to be traded by 11 am this morning, and it's almost 2. Do not fear, I have been told that the deal is still on and nothing is going to keep it from happening. TSN is reporting it will be Van Ryn to Toronto for McCabe and a 3rd rounder. I am hearing that those details may not be correct, but I cannot speculate on what the deal is. Van Ryn and McCabe seem to be the two definites. We'll know soon.
Sundin returns to Toronto this week, and it seems he will come and go without telling us his intentions on next season. This is going to frustrate teams, and dominos will begin to fall without Sundin.

Bolts/Sens Make Trade
The Ottawa Senators have traded defenceman Andrej Meszaros to the Tampa Bay Lightning for defencemen Filip Kuba, Alexandre Picard and a first round pick (previously acquired from San Jose).
Expect Meszaros to sign a multi-year deal worth around 5 million dollars per shortly.

Sens Hit With Offer Sheet
Andrej Meszaros has signed an offer sheet. I'm hearing it's a five year, 25 million dollar contract, but that information is fuzzy for the moment. I've been working on teams and at the moment nobody seems to know. Teams I've heard it could be are Phoenix, Atlanta and Montreal, but these are just whispers and I honestly have no clue who it could be. Ottawa will not be happy that they are losing him for just draft picks. This leaves an even bigger hole on their blueline, as I doubt very much that they will match this offer sheet.

Latest On McCabe
As Hockeyleaks.com was FIRST to report, Mike Van Ryn is indeed part of the Toronto/Florida trade. Sportsnet has now confirmed this, 18 hours after Hockeyleaks.com reported it.
There is more to this deal than just a McCabe for Van Ryn trade. Names I'm hearing today include Ponikarovsky and Peltonen. Other Bloggers are insisting that Bouwmeester is part of this deal, but I cannot stress enough that this is untrue. Under no circumstances will Bouwmeister be on his way to Toronto as part of this Bryan McCabe deal. The Leafs do have serious interest in Weiss and Horton, but as of this point niether is in the deal worked out by the two sides. Props to Sportsnet for confirming this, the Panthers interest has been rumoured all over the internet over the past week. This is what I'm hearing:
McCabe has said he will go to the Florida Panthers, though the Leafs still have to work out a deal with the Panthers. With that said, he has waived his NTM for a total of four teams, and I can confirm the Islanders and Devils are on that list, unsure of the fourth team.
As far as Florida is concerned, the name I am hearing is Mike Van Ryn. He has two years left on his contract, with a cap hit of 2.9 million. I am also hearing that Martin also wants Chad Kinger in the deal, sending him back to the Leafs. Kilger is still on personal leave and is not expected to start the season with the Panthers. The Leafs want Bouwmeister, but at this point Florida's asking price is too high, I doubt that gets done. The Leafs are trying to get David Booth in this deal however, and that could get done. Sundin Can't Win...
Today while talking to Hockeyleaks.com team member Yick I started to feel for Mats Sundin. He is a class act guy, who has done nothing but great things for the NHL. He is the reason many young Swedish players have such a passion for the game, and if it wasn't for him, Toronto would have rebelled against their team years ago. Mats has been nothing but great for the NHL, and now he finds himself in a situation in which he cannot win.
If he signs with Vancouver, he's in it for the money.
If he signs with Montreal, he's a traitor
If he signs with Toronto, he has no passion to win the cup.
If he retires, he simply quit too soon.
For me, it's too bad the Detroit Red Wings didn't have interest in this guy. Detroit is in the West, so he wouldn't be called a traitor. Detroit wouldn't pay him more than Lidstrom, so it wouldn't be about the money. Detroit is defending their cup, showing Sundin wants to win. Finally, the team is basically team Sweden, another great reason for Sundin to end up in Hockeytown U.S.A.
For Sundin, I think the only safe bet for him at this point is to return to Toronto, or retire. Returing to Toronto shows loyalty, and yes it would basically stamp his career with no stanley cups, it's better than winning no stanley cups in Vancouver, while selling out for the money, because lets face it, the Canucks are not contenders with or without Sundin, and the only reason to sign there would be for the money.
With that said, I'm hearing the Rangers, Avalanche and Senators are all still hoping to land Sundin, with the Rangers and Avs much more likely than Ottawa. Sundin shouldn't retire, as this is not how his career should end. A return to Toronto is his best option, but Montreal, NYR or Colorado wouldn't be terrible choices.

The Rest of the RFAs
Before I talk about the RFAs, I want to remind all of you to check out the new Hockeyleaks.com. The site is much improved, and I am enjoying it a lot. I also ask all of you to join the forums, and join in on the discussions. The new site makes this easier than ever! Our hit counts are up, but most of you are still just reading, and not participating! We need discussion and participation if hockeyleaks.com is to grow, so help us out!

Patrick O'Sullivan - Likely the best RFA available, teams are interested in him. With that said, nobody is making him an offer because LA has the cap room to match whatever you throw at him. O'Sullivan is not eager to sign with LA, and thus each day this drags on, the chances of O'Sullivan being dealt, and I'm hearing it will be to the East, increase.
Jarret Stoll - Stoll was not happy with the trade out of Edmonton, but is expected to eventually sign with the Kings. That said, it won't be a longer deal, likely around two years. I don't expect the Kings to trade this guy, nor do I expect anyone to offer sheet him.
Andrej Meszaros - Arbitration is not far away, but the Sens are hoping to avoid it. The Sens need to lock this guy up, as their defense is way too weak for their liking. With that said, if they can deal him, they may. Meszaron, along with Vermette, have been the subject of trade rumours all summer long, and I expect one of them will be moved by the start of the season. Vermette is signed, making Meszaros the likely one on his way out.
All three of these players are very important to their teams, and if dealt, the return should be comparable.
As for the Leafs naming a permanent GM (as per Eklund), I still don't see it. I've heard nothing of that sorts, and I'd be surprised if such a thing happened.
Devils really going hard for Shanny, who really wants to return to the Rangers, but is stuck in limbo as the Rangers wait for Mats. Is anyone else getting really tired / losing a lot of respect for Mats? This game is getting old.

700th Blog Post....
Well this is the 700th blog post made by me, well not really. We were hacked after like 150 blog posts on hockeyleaks.blogspot.com, and now we've had 700 more on hockey-leaks.blogspot.com. Either way, I feel sorry for all of you who have had to read almost 1000 of my blogs...on to the news
Sundin to make decision on August 1st? The news will tell you Vancouver. Eklund is telling you Montreal...so it's only fitting I'll tell you Toronto. I've heard that Sundin will not choose Vancouver because he knows this isnt a playoff team, and to leave the Leafs for a non-playoff team would make him look awful. It's down to the Toronto and Montreal, and in the end I believe he will not have it in his heart to leave the city of Toronto...
You'll hear a lot about Glen Murray going to San Jose, but I'm not sold on it. I think he may end up back in LA. The Kings management are very interested i've been told, as they think he'd be great for the young players.
Kubina's trade window is quickly closing....if McCabe can't be dealt soon, the Leafs will really step up their Kubina shopping...
thats all for now, the new site is probably just days away. The server change will happen before sunday, and once that occurs, thats when the fun arrives!

Site Update
Just giving you guys an update on where we are right now. We had a bit of difficulty moving the server last week. It's hard because I have to transfer it on my side because I own the new server, but I need the guy who owns the old servers help (aka unlocking things on his side). He was hard to reach, and it got difficult, but things are alright now and the server transfer should be complete this week. Once that is done, it shouldn't take long to launch the new site. So if you go to Hockeyleaks.com and things either dont work, or something doesnt look right, just sit tight as this is almost over.
I am so excited for the new site, hopefully it turns out wonderful and Hockeyleaks.com can move forward in a big way.

Facelift in Ottawa?
Ottawa is an interesting team to watch right now.
Tomorrow they will announce Jason Williams has signed a three year deal worth just under 6 million total.
Vermette wants out, and will get his wish. The Sens are also heavily shopping Chris Neil. Two teams being mentioned are Chicago (Cam Barker or Brent Seabrook), and Florida (Allin or dare I say Bouwmeister? Jacques Martin LOVES Vermette).
Radulov is getting 8 mil a year in russia...I still don't think he'll end up there. I'm hearing two things...a) This is a ploy to get a good deal from Nashville and b) Russia will back off the contract, as it really could start this relationship between Russia and the NHL off on a bad note....
Matthieu Schneider could be on his way to Phoenix I've been told...
Had a good discussion with some people tonight about how overrated Hossa and Campbell are. Is Campbell in the top ten defensemen in the league? Pronger, Chara, Lidstrom, Niedermayer, Gonchar, Kaberle and Phaneuf were all 100% voted better, but I think there could be more. Timmonen, Zubov, Visnovsky, Ohlund, Boyle, Green....I want to hear your thoughts, so reply to the blog on the forums with your feedback on this...(when we launch the new site sometime in the next month, commenting on these will be sooo much easier, I can't wait).

Ive just been told by a source out west that the Canucks will be announcing a couple of signings later this week.
Sundin has been spotted in Vancouver this week, while Demitra could be the other one...

Here We Go
Hockeyleaks.com is still using the same layout it did when we first opened three years ago. I changed once, only to come running back to this one. Three years into this site, I think it's time we tried something different.
I have already announced that I have purchased Hockeyleaks.com it's own server (we've been using several other servers free of charge over the last three years). Now I can announce that I am paying someone to re-design the site.
The site will soon be fully-forum based. The site will still feature standings and stats on the main page, but the headlines will all be done through the forums. This will simplify everything for you and me. No longer will you have to scramble around the site for the latest rumours. Instead, all of that information will be there for you to read and comment on, right on the main page. This means the blog may also be changing, so stay tuned. I've spent the last month investigating and research ways to make Hockeyleaks.com a better site, and I think you will all be happy with the changes that are coming.
Another great improvement will be that we will be able to have more staff updating the site. Currently, I am the only one who can edit Hockeyleaks.com. If I am not around, the site doesnt get updated. Thanks to the new design, I will be able to appoint a few others who will be able to post news as soon as it happens. Also, the forums will be the same, so none of your accounts should be affected. Leafs Aquire Grabovski
The Leafs have dealt their 2nd round pick in 2010 and Greg Pateryn (who they picked in the 5th round in 2008) to the Habs for Mikhail Grabovski.

Late Night Rumblings...
Dan Boyle is apparently close to being trade. There are three teams I'm hearing right now: Ottawa, LA and Philadelphia. Ottawa is currently the front-runner, offering a package that includes one of Vermette or Meszaros.
Naslund could sign tomorrow I've been told. The Penguins were leading this all day, but now Minnestoa is in front, apparently making him a multi-year deal. The Wild are also interested in Brenden Morrison.
Montreal is looking to turn their attention to Pavol Demitra. I am hearing they have made Selanne a very nice offer as well. Montreal should make at least a signing tomorrow, they've basically decided Sundin isn't coming to Quebec...
As far as Sundin goes, I'm hearing it's Leafs or retire.
Final note of the night, the Oilers have really upped their offer for Jagr. They really wanted Hossa, but they will settle for Jagr. Unfortunatly for the Oilers, Jagr is likely staying in the East. Mario Lemieux himself is in charge of bringing Jagr back, and the Pens are right now considered front-runners. The Rangers are still in this, and will likely make a more substantial offer now that Sundin's decision is delayed...

Final note of the night, the Oilers have really upped their offer for Jagr. They really wanted Hossa, but they will settle for Jagr. Unfortunatly for the Oilers, Jagr is likely staying in the East. Mario Lemieux himself is in charge of bringing Jagr back, and the Pens are right now considered front-runners. The Rangers are still in this, and will likely make a more substantial offer now that Sundin's decision is delayed...
More to come tomorrow, I have a feeling we'll see a trade or two tomorrow. The teams who missed out on UFAs may turn to RFAs, and that should happen any time now...

Sundin - Best name still available. I'm hearing there is no way he takes Vancouver's offer. Sundin is a modest guy, and honestly doesn't want the pressure of being the highest paid player in the league. He also doesn't want the pressure of a two year deal. With Detroit out of it, I am hearing it's down to two: Toronto and Montreal. I wouldn't be at all shocked if Sundin returns to Toronto. Final team to watch in Sundin race, SUNDIN. If Sakic decides against a return, Sundin could be on Colorado's radar.
Avery - Dallas leads this one, though Calgary Ive been told is also showing quite a bit of interest. The Rangers could up their offer should they miss out on Sundin and Jagr.

Oilers Aquire Brule

My Bold Predictions
The free agent market will open in less than 12 hours. Their are not as many big names this year as in previous years, but still some big names none the less. Its that time of year where I make my predictions and see what I can get right. Predictions are based on a what I've heard, and what I feel...so lets do this
Hossa - Boston is the team to watch here. They have the cap room, and he's close friends with Chara. He played well with Savard, making it a comfortable situation for him. Boston is also headed in the right direction, something that Hossa is also looking for. While Montreal and Ottawa will make pitches, I believe Hossa will indeed become a Bruin.
Sundin - I'm going to go out on a lim, and say Toronto...
Campbell - The best d-man on the market, there are a lot of teams that would love this guy. Buffalo, Montreal and Atlanta will all make modest offers, while Chicago's offer will be the best of them all. In the end, its Ottawa that will bring home Campbell
Vrbata - Phoenix would love to keep this guy, but the top three teams I'm hearing are Toronto, Buffalo and New Jersey. Buffalo is likely to win this race.

Crazy Sunday
Sunday is usually a slow day. Today has been anything but.
Edmonton sends Stoll and Greene to LA for Visnovsky. LOVE this move for both teams. Visnovsky is going to be replaced by Doughty anyways, while Stoll gives them another great forward. The Oilers get the puck moving defenseman they've been looking for. I'm being told Pitkanen is on his way out, and could even be dealt before July 1st. Montreal and Ottawa have great interest in him.
Tampa signs Malone and Roberts as reported by myself earlier in the day. Now they've aquired the rights to Rolston. It's too soon to tell if he'll sign, but don't count it out. Roberts and Malone are huge pick ups for the Lightning, Rolston would be as well. Tampa is looking around the league for a goaltender, they are not done shopping.
Foote and Liles have re-signed in Colorado, taking two more big name defenseman off the market. I'm starting to wonder if there will be anyone for teams to sign on Tuesday.
I know the big media outlets are saying Sundin's decision is still a ways away, but I think they are just playing it safe. Tomorrow is a very big day for this whole process. If Sundin signs tomorrow with the Habs, the Leafs get something in return. He doesnt want to leave the Leafs with nothing, especially after burning them at the deadline. If Sundin makes it to July 1st, the chances of him staying a Leaf are decent, though still less than 50/50. I think tomorrow he signs, but thats just a hunch.
Tomorrow has potential to be a very large day. A lot of RFAs and UFAs rights are being shopped. A lot of teams had Sunday night deadlines, and teams may get into bidding wars tomorrow. With the rights of Rolston going tonight, I fully expect someone to finally give San Jose what they want for Campbell's rights. Tomorrow should be fun

Malone, Roberts Sign With Tampa Bay
Malone is really cashing in, long term deal, 6 or 7 years, worth over 30 million. Roberts is going to sign a one year deal worth 2 million.
Hearing Curtis Joseph is set to return to toronto, i'd be shocked if that didnt happen at this point.
Hossa to Boston is very likely I've been told. Chara and Savard are both huge reasons why Hossa is strongly considering the Bruins.
Leafs have significant interest in Jason Williams. Leafs are still talking to the sharks about possibly bringing in Marleau.
The Blackhawks will make Brian Campbell the best offer hes going to recieve, but Ottawa and NYR will be all over this guy as well.

The Year of the Buyout...
Three more buyouts today, in what has been a buyout period that nobody has expected. Biggish name players are being added to what started as a weak free agent pool. This makes for a much more exciting July 1st.
We'll start with Todd Bertuzzi who is on waivers and who could be claimed before tomorrow. If he clears, which is very likely, Bertuzzi will be bought out by the ducks. This will cost the team 1.33 million a season for the next two years. A lot of chatter today about the Canucks thinking about picking big bert back up.
Shawn Bates is going to be bought out as well. The veteran struggled with injuries last season and only played two games. Bates has only played 50 games in the last two years, so it's unlikely anyone will be in a rush to pick this guy up. Bates will cost the team just 400,000 a season over the next two seasons.
Finally, Andrew Raycroft is being bought out by the Leafs. I'm surprised by this, as all indications were that Raycroft would be burried in the Marlies, or placed on re-entry waivers. Apparently Fletcher just wants him gone. Raycroft will cost the team about 750,000 a season for the next two seasons.

Niedermayer To Play Next Season
Scott Niedermayer has told Brian Burke that he will play next season for the Ducks. This is good news for a team who missed his presence for much of last season. I am being told Selanne is likely to head to July 1st.
The Mats Sundin saga continues, apparently toronto has given him a Sunday deadline. I continue to hear that Montreal is the favourite, with June 30th as the possible day this gets done. I still think he'll hit the open market July 1st.
Also with the Leafs, reports today suggest that the Leafs have threatened to sit McCabe if he won't accept a trade. ATL, NYR and NYI are the teams very interested in him.

Hockeyleaks.com News! Chat Tonight!
We have finally purchased our own server, which should mean better things for Hockeyleaks.com. We will not be moving right away, as changing servers will result in about 5-7 days downtime, and obviously I'm not shutting things down before or around July 1st. Expect the move to take place in late July, early August...
The chat is also back just in time for July 1st. I'm going to be in Chat tonight from 10-11 PM EST tonight to discuss whatever rumours and news you would like to discuss! Chats will be more common leading up to the Free Agent season. It will also be the place to be on July 1st when free agent season kicks off.

Clarifying The Leafs' Moves
Im getting A LOT of emails regarding the moves the Leafs have done today. A lot of you are unsure exactly what has happened, so here is exactly what has gone down.
Darcy Tucker is being bought out. I spoke to a source who confirmed that Tucker has a NMC and thus was given the decision if he would like to be placed on waivers. Tucker rejected that, and will immediatly be bought out. Tucker does not have to be placed or clear waivers, and thus will do niether.
Raycroft has been placed on waivers, but will not be bought out I have been told. The team will likely wait until Fall, and place Raycroft on re-entry waivers. If he clears, they may just keep him in the minors for the season. Buying Raycroft out makes very little sense for the Leafs at this point, though I guess with Toronto, anything could happen.
Wellwood has also been placed on waivers. If he clears, the Leafs will have to decide whether or not to qualify him. His rights could still be traded between now and july 1st as well. Vancouver, Minnesota and Phoenix are teams I have heard may be willing to take a chance on Wellwood, who I believe still has a lot of game left in him.

Sunday Morning Rumours!
A lot of big rumours coming out this morning, you can tell free agent season is almost here.
First, while it has been speculated that the Leafs will receive picks and/or prospects from Montreal should they sign Sundin, I have been told that may not be the case. The Habs need cap room, and Chris Higgins could be on his way to Toronto. Higgins has a cap hit of just 1.7, but its a start for the Habs. Emery On Waivers
Just heard from a good source that the Sens have placed Emery on waivers. If he clears, he will be bought out.
For those who are just waking up, Chris Mason was traded to St. Louis for NYR's 4th round pick. The Blues have no plans on moving Legace.
St. Louis may not be done, I'm hearing they could possibly move that 4th overall pick.

Leafs Aquire Mayers
The Leafs have traded a third round pick to the St. Louis Blues for forward Jamal Mayers. To me, this means Tucker is on his way out of Toronto, as they are very similar players. The Leafs have had interest in Mayers since before deadline of 07, it's interesting that Fletcher made a deal JFJ came close to making several times.
Bryan McCabe is not likely to waive his NTC, and according to his agent there is no deal that Bryan would accept. This is a ploy to get McCabe bought out, something the team has no intentions of doing. At this point, Kubina to the Sharks seems very likely.
Unfortunatly I have to work my real job tomorrow night, and will not be around to cover the draft. Hockeyleaks' own Colin Lim will be at the draft, so hopefully sometime next week he will be able to give a report on what it was like to be there. I will set up a "Draft Chat" in the forum, for all of you to discuss the happenings. I will be posting rumours and any deals that happen tomorrow before 3 pm EST.

Talking to sources today, it is my greatest opinion that there could be earthquakes in Ottawa this weekend. I've never heard so many big names (and I mean BIG) being mentioned.
Ottawa is looking to move Jason Spezza. They have offered him in a package with emery and their own pick to the Kings for the second overall pick, and a roster player (some believe its Cammy). They have also offered Spezza to the Thrashers in exchange for their third overall pick. There is more to that deal but I dont have details. Ottawa has lost Chara and Redden now, and want one of the premier defensemen in this draft to help replace that void.
The Pens are also shopping Malkin, as they are expected to re-sign Hossa. The Kings are the team in the spotlight, with the 2nd overall pick and Cammy going the other way. Malkin would fit great in LA with frolov, brown and a group of great young defensemen.
The Panthers WILL trade Jokinen I've been told. The Flames are the team to watch, in a deal that could involve Tanguay. The Canucks are also offering their 10th overall pick + for him.
I am still hearing McCabe could go this weekend. All the media outlets are saying he won't be moved until later in the summer, but Fletcher has to move of McCabe or Kubina, and this has to be done before July 1st so the team knows exactly how much money they have to spend. Kubina will be moved if needed, but his stellar play late last season means whoever wants him may have to take Raycroft as well.
The Red Wings are very interested in getting the rights to Sundin, though that doesnt have to happen this weekend.

The Draft Is Near
Here is all the latest, enjoy:
How the Leafs are not being accused of tampering yet is beyond me. They have hired Al Coates as their player personnel directer. Coates has spent the last six seasons in ANAHEIM.
Blake Wheeler will only play in the East I've been told. Toronto, Buffalo and Carolina are the three teams Im hearing. A lot of teams want him signed before this Friday's draft.
Getting the rest of Leafs news out of the way, buying out Darcy Tucker makes no sense to me. A million a year over the next six to get rid of him? At least let him play one more year at $3 million and see how that goes. A lot of reports suggest the Leafs will move up if they have a shot at filatov. I could see a 7th overall + McCabe trade to the Islanders for their 5th overall pick.
I'm hearing that St. Louis may pick up Schenn with their first round pick (fourth overall). Most mock drafts have schenn going somewhere between 5th - 8th.
Vancouver is heavily shopping their first round pick (#10 overall). Gillis doesn't like his teams scouting, and feels the pick would be better traded for an already established NHLer. Many believe he may change the face of the team by packaging it with a sedin or two. Ohlund or Salo could also be on the move.
Columbus is shopping their first round pick (#6 overall), and would love to get a centre to play with Rick Nash. Patrick Marleau's name won't go away in this rumour.
John Torterella is looking to become the head coach of the Atlanta Thrashers, while Barry Melrose still looks to be the guy in Tampa.

Hartley To Be Next Sens Coach?
Just got off the phone with a very good source that has told me that Bob Hartley will be named the next coach of the Ottawa Senators. I'm not going to guarentee it, but this source is very rarely wrong. He also said Kitcheners Peter DeBoer has been offered a spot as an assistant coach, time will tell if he takes it.
As for Ron Wilson to the Leafs, a report today says that Wilson's offer would not make him one of the highest paid coaches in the game, something he apparently has a problem with. He has until Monday to decide on the offer...I still think this gets done.

CBC to ditch 'Canada's second national anthem'?

The Hockey Night in Canada theme song will be shut out next season, according to the composer of the song.
The agreement between the CBC and the composer, Dolores Claman, expired last night when the last game of the 2007-'08 season was played, according to the website, hockeytheme.com.
According to the site, the CBC has advised Claman that the contract will not be renewed and the broadcaster has chosen to move in a new direction - which means we won't be hearing the familiar dunt-da-DUNT-da-dunt at the beginning of each CBC-aired game next season.

The CBC was paying about $500 for each game broadcast using the anthem. The renewal offer was "virtually identical," according to the site.
"I am saddened by the decision of the CBC to drop the Hockey Night in Canada Theme after our lengthy history together," Claman said. "I nevertheless respect its right to move in a new direction."
The composition was written by Claman in 1968 and has become one of the longest running theme songs in broadcasting history, sometimes refered to as "Canada's second national anthem."

I am asking all of you to show your support and email CBC asking this decision to be overturned! The CBC doesn't need a new direction, the current one is working just fine. TORTORELLA FIRED
John Tortorella has been fired as the GM of the Tampa Bay Lightning. Very likely that Barry Melrose replaces him behind the bench in the not too distant future.
Ottawa will be interviewing Kitchener Rangers coach Peter DeBoer very soon. Pat Burns still the favourite there.
Paul Maurice is gaining a lot of momentum right now in Florida.

Leafs To Hire Ron Wilson
Hearing from a very good source that the Leafs have hired Ron Wilson as their new coach. Should be announced in the next 24 hours. Looks like Fletcher is going to GM for this season, though they are still after Burke, possibly Regier. They've been rejected again to speak to both men this week, but both want the job, and both are free agents July 09.
A lot of people are asking for details for the fantasy league. The server is down right now for that, I will let you know when it's back up.

Coaching Roundup + Fantasy News
First of all, props to Eklund. The guy called Ron Wilson talking to the Leafs this morning, before anyone picked it up. Now the major media is featuring this story, nice to see Eklund get one right for once...
Some don't realise the amount of abuse bloggers like myself and eklund recieve on a daily basis for our rumours. We reports what we hear (or in Eklund's case, make up), and usually it doesn't happen. That's not because we didnt hear it, or it wasnt in the works, it just didnt finalize like it was suppose to. When I reported a few weeks ago that Barry Melrose was set to become the next coach of Tampa, I got many emails bashing myself and the site, saying that Tampa had a coach, and if they were to replace their current one, Melrose didnt have a shot. It's nice when something people bash you for happens, makes this all worth my time :)
The fantasy league for 08-09 is taking sign ups currently. We have about half of the spots left, with about 15 already filled. Make sure you get in on this ASAP, as it's going to be a lot of fun. The Finals
Well, I've had a decent post-season as far as picking winners goes, so lets try to end things on a high note.
Pittsburgh and Detroit have both had great post-seasons. Pittsburgh was always my pick to win the East, while I figured San Jose would have been in the final for the West. Even so, the Red Wings have proven all doubters wrong, and have easily won three series. Will Pittsburgh be their greatest challenge? The Red Wings have yet to face an offense as strong as Pittsburgh's, and it will be interesting to see if Chris Osgood can continue to put up Conn Smyth numbers against what I feel is the best offense in the NHL. On the other side, Pittsburgh has never faced a defense like the one Detroit possesses.

Fleury and Osgood are the two biggest question marks in this series, and their play will determine the winner of this series. My heart tells me Pittsburgh will win, but my brain is telling me that defense wins championships, and there is no defense better than Detroit's.

Hockeyleaks.com Expanding
Hockeyleaks.com is about to enter it's fourth year of being a website. Hockeyleaks.com was started by me in 2005 during the lock-out, and I've continued to run it mostly on my own since then (though some people have contributed greatly over the years and I have appreciated every second of it). As we enter the 2008 Offseason, I am looking to expand Hockeyleaks.com even further. This year, Hockeyleaks. com will have it's first ever mock draft. We will introduce what should be the most fantasy game on the internet. We will cover the 2008 UFA class closer than ever before.
With that said, I am looking for a little help. I am looking for someone who can help me possibly update the site during the summer months. Summer is a very busy time for me, with regular work as well as a week vacation I usually take in early July. I am looking for someone who would be willing to volunteer their time (though if I am able to land any advertising deals I would be willing to give something back) for times when I am unable to update the site. I am looking for someone with some HTML, Microsoft Frontpage and FTP experience, and for someone who is a regular hockeyleaks reader, and who has talked to me via email, the forums or messenger in the past. As time moves forward, so will Hockeyleaks.com, and I am excited for what lies ahead for this website.
